Our volunteers hand out coffee, tea, sweets, condoms, as well as literature and contact info for practical help.
The work of Alabaster Jar is designed to promote self worth, confidence and hope for change. We are motivated by the belief that every individual is worthy to receive Christ’s transformative love and kindness, and we seek to achieve our mission by investing in the following three areas:
Care and community
Whether it is on the streets, inside brothels, or within the walls of Café Neustart, our goal is to build trust, provide care, establish community, and communicate the love of Jesus.
Opportunities that encourage growth & personal empowerment
We meet practical needs through partnership.
Physical security and health
We collaborate with social workers and other services such as drug advice centres, medical facilities, emergency shelters and houses of refuge.
“Compassion isn’t just about feeling the pain of others; it’s about bringing them in toward yourself. If we love what God loves, then, in compassion, margins get erased. ‘Be compassionate as God is compassionate,’ means the dismantling of barriers that exclude.”
― Gregory J. Boyle, Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion
