At Alabaster Jar we love inspiring people to get involved and make a difference. Whether you are passionate about prayer, the creative type, a fundraiser at heart, or have a genuine desire to see lives transformed through building trust and consistent interaction, we would love to hear from you.
There are so many different ways to support our work, and we are committed to helping you find the role that suits you and your schedule best.
Our Frontline volunteers engage with the women, build relationship and extend acts of kindness. This may mean making a lady a cup of tea, helping them pick out an item of donated clothing they like, taking time to listen and have a chat, or signposting for additional support. If your heart beats for showering God’s love and kindness on the women we serve with a non-judgemental approach, you might want to consider visiting one of our outreaches to find out more.
Our Prayer Team is essential for everything we do as an organisation, and we recognise that without prayer, our impact would be significantly reduced. On an outreach night, the Prayer Team follows closely behind the Frontline volunteers remaining alert of their environment and looking out for any women who seem particularly vulnerable. Do you love prayer? Why not sign up to visit Alabaster Jar and learn more about how to pray for women working in the sex industry.
For those who need a bit more flexibility and prefer to be behind the scenes, we are always looking for volunteers who can help provide baking or gifts for outreach, who can organise fundraising events or boost our social media presence, as well as those who are gifted in administration. There really is something for everyone.
To volunteer frontline and on the prayer team, we ask that volunteers are at least 21 years old. There is no minimum age requirement to volunteer behind the scenes (e.g. baking, social media, administrative support), but parental consent may be requested.
Because our outreaches are mainly geared towards engaging with the women working in the sex industry, we feel it is best to have only women volunteering in frontline roles. Having said that, we are very happy to welcome male volunteers onto our prayer teams, which accompany the frontline teams.
We ask anyone who is interested in getting involved with our work to visit an outreach 3 times. This just helps us find the right fit for you, and to get to know one another better too. After your 3 visits, you will be sent our application form and invited to meet with our Team Leader to chat about what your volunteering with Alabaster might look like. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions and also find an arrangement that works for both Alabaster Jar and your schedule! If everyone is happy to go ahead, you will then be welcomed onto the team and added to the volunteer rota.
